Wolford Neon 40 is the pair people mention when they say “tights that feel expensive.” At $38 it is not cheap, but the 40-denier knit has a glossy finish and a fit that stays put for a full workday. We wore them for three eight-hour days, washed them twice, and walked about 12 km in total. Here is what held up and what did not.
We tested the classic black pair in size Medium. The Neon 40 is a 40-denier, semi-opaque tight with a soft sheen, a cotton gusset, and a flat, sewn-in waistband. Wolford markets them as durable enough for daily wear, so we treated them exactly like an everyday tight: office chair, commuting, light walking, and machine wash in a delicates bag.
The first thing you notice is the even, high-gloss finish. It is not disco-ball shiny; it is more of a subtle satin glow under office lights. The fabric feels smooth and slightly cool against the skin. The waistband sits at the natural waist without rolling, and there is no “cutting in” sensation after lunch. The toe seam is flat and did not irritate during long walks.
Wolford’s size chart runs true to height and hip measurements. Our tester is 5’6” / 125 lb and the Medium fit cleanly with no excess fabric at the ankle. If you are between sizes, size up rather than down; the waistband has less give than the leg. The 40-denier coverage is consistent from thigh to ankle with no obvious lighter patches.
After two gentle machine washes in a delicates bag and air drying, the Neon 40 showed no snags, no pilling, and no loss of sheen. The waistband retained its shape. We did not test them against jewelry or rough desk edges, but for normal office and city wear they look durable enough to last a full season of regular rotation.
At $38 the cost per wear is high unless you wear them weekly. For occasional important meetings, dates, or travel days where you want reliable, good-looking tights, the Neon 40 is worth the outlay. For daily commuting in winter, a cheaper opaque tight will save money long term.
Best for professionals, frequent travelers, and anyone who wants one reliable pair for important days. If your dress code is business-casual or higher, Neon 40 earns its place in the drawer.
